This half term in English we have been learning all about descriptive writing, basing our work on The Witches by Roahl Dahl. We have been working really hard to use paragraphs, varied sentence starters and expanded noun phrases! We have loved writing our character descriptions all about the Grand High witch and will be looking at newspaper reports next.
We have just started our topic on fractions! We have loved using our fractions wall and making resources to support our learning. Developing our understanding of how fractions are represented in different ways, equivalent fractions and improper fractions.
In maths we are always practicing and developing our times table knowledge!! We use visual methods to represent our tables, using resources to check our working and playing games to increase fluency. We have also been explaining our reasoning - recognising patterns. Here are some maths games that you can play at home to help learn our times tables...
In creative links we have been learning all about the History of Colchester. Looking at the Romans and Normans. Understanding the changes and potential causes. We have loved discussing all the changes and coming up with different lines of enquiry about Colchester town.
In Science we have been learning all about sound. Investigating our school environment and gathering information about what sounds we could hear. Discovering the quietest and noisiest areas! We have also looked at the difference between pitch and volume, using instruments to test our theories!
