This half term in English we are continuing to develop our letter formation for our upper and lower case letters. We are continuing to develop our use of capital letters and full stops. We will be learning to retell the story of Meerkat Mail. We will learn to know and spell the Days of the Week. We will continue to develop our use of the conjunction 'and', and use 'but', 'or' and 'because'. We will then use these skills to write the story. Later in the term we will learn to write letters, like Sunny in the story!
In Maths we will learn to Represent and use number bonds and related subtraction facts within 20. Read, write and interpret mathematical statements involving
addition (+), subtraction (-) and equals (=) signs. We will add and subtract one-digit and two-digit numbers to 20, including zero. We will learn to solve one step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7= ꙱ –9.
This half term we will be learning about Geography. We will learn;
Geographical skills and fieldwork
We will use simple fieldwork and observational skills to study the geography of their school and its grounds.
This half term we are learning about Animals including humans. We will learn to
name the basic parts of the body; name the senses and say which body part is associated with each sense; identify and name a range of common animals; describe the structure of common animals, including some parts of the body that are specific to animals. We will learn to say something that is the same and something that is different about two animals; understand that animals have different diets and use our senses to perform simple tests.
Please see children's diaries for weekly set spellings. Their scores will be in their diaries at the end of each week.
In year 1 the children are encouraged to pick their own book to take home and share with you. Sometimes the children may find the book challenging, please continue to encourage using the phonics sounds and discuss the tricky words. Please use the spelling and read pack provided at the parent phonics session.

In PSHE we are going to learn about relationships with friends and family.
Please ensure your child has their full indoor and outdoor PE kit in school at all times. Currently PE is on Wednesday. Please ensure earrings are removed.
