In Wembley Park, this half term will be focussing our writing on the book 'Tell me a Dragon'
The children will be writing descriptions of dragons, writing fact files about dragons, they may even be getting a little dragon surprise.
We’re doing a lot of reading at the moment in class, including radical reading which is reading anything but your school reading book! This could include leaflets, cereal boxes, maps, advertisements- if you have anything at home please feel free to bring it in. We are also trying to encourage the children to read more at home, so if you catch your child reading, please write in their Home school books and they will be rewarded with a marble!
Children will be having a weekly spelling test, this will be done on a Monday, with new words given out each week. Children will be given words based on their spelling ability- these will either come from the Year 2 Common exceptions words or the Year 3 and 4 Spelling word list which you can see below. Please encourage children to practise these at home as this will help greatly with their writing. More marbles will be up for grabs!!
This half term in Maths, we will be focussing on place value, which means knowing all about 3 digit numbers. We will then be moving onto addition and subtraction. As always, we are still working on our times tables. If you can practise at home, especially on Times Table Rockstars- which I have put a link below. By the end of Year 3 children should know fluently their 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 10 times tables.

This half term, we will be working on our Art skills. We will be looking at how we shade, creating colour charts, still life pictures and then we will be printing.
In Science, we will be looking at Forces and Magnets. Children will be doing investigations to explore the force of friction and how magnets work. Our little Scientists, will be discovering how to complete their own experiments, how to record results and then explain what has happened.
Homework Project – Our Library - to be handed in by Tuesday 1st November.
This term has begun with huge excitement in school as we have begun the renovation of our library. So far we have constructed an almost life size Cherry Tree in the atrium, added a raft of brand new books and rebanded all of the existing ones to allow the children more choice together with a faster progression through the levels of books. We are awaiting the delivery of some new seating too.
To enhance this area further we would like the children to complete their project this half term specifically to enhance this area further, with work from them based around their favourite books. This could include a favourite character, setting, plot or indeed the whole story.
There are some ideas below but please feel free to let their imagination run wild and be as creative as you like.
Book box – this is a story displayed within an open shoe box
Models – any kind
Mini books where they have retold their favourite story
Any original stories that they have written and illustrated
