Welcome to the Year 6 section of the school website. Please see below for the key information regarding what we are doing and learning in class and any key resources that may be useful to assist in learning away from school.
In English sessions this half term we will begin with studying the humorous verses of Roald Dahl's dirty beasts, we will look at examples and then plan and create our own poems.
We will be using the visual literacy video 'Pigeon Impossible' for our main writing focus. We will use this to help us generate ideas for narrative writing as well as a non fiction topic of discussions, discussing if the agent was or wasn't a hero.
During our maths sessions this half term key maths skills will be a big focus for us in Year 6. This will help us with our preparations for SATs on the 14th May.
We will also be looking at approaches to problem solving and how we can use our knowledge successfully in investigations.
Please remember to practice times tables to aid fluency!!!
Creative links has a music focus this term. We will be studying different songs and pieces of music linked to a specific style. We will appraise, sharing likes and dislikes, research the background to the songs and then create our own versions in groups.
Science work this term will be focussed upon ‘Evolution and Inheritance.’ This will allow us to investigate how humans and animals have evolved over time and how traits have been inherited by next generations. We will also study the work of Charles Darwin
In preparations for the SATs in May, your homework focus will be on revision of prior learning. Mr May will set you activities from the revision materials for you to work through weekly and these will be discussed during sessions in the week.
Below are documents that contain the KS2 key spelling words. These are the words that have been looked at within class spelling sessions and can be used at home to help develop spelling knowledge.
