Welcome to the Year 6 section of the school website. Please see below for the key information regarding what we are doing and learning in class and any key resources that may be useful to assist in learning away from school.
In English sessions this half term we will be studying aspects associated to the war and the feelings and emotions that this generates. Using the video ‘Beyond the lines,’ there will be work on description and use of emotive language and we will write letters from troops back home.
The second half of the term will be a focus on information and instruction texts. Using Wallace and Gromit’s Cracking Contraptions we will look at explaining how devices work and invent our own as well as developing knowledge of information texts.
As a class book we will be reading James and the Giant Peach as preparations for our school book day.
During our maths sessions we will be looking at algebra before studying ratio and proportion.
Key maths skills will be a focus too. These will be used to help develop our understanding ready for SATs.
Please remember to practice times tables to aid fluency!!!
Creative links has a geography focus this term. We will look at what a geographer does and the key roles required to be successful in that field. We will identify a problem in our local environment and discuss/devise solutions.
Science work this term will be focussed upon ‘Animals including Humans.’ This will look at the different types of animals and where/how they live in the range of different habitats. Focus will also be given on how to preserve animals in the environment.
In preparations for the SATs in May, your homework focus will be on revision of prior learning. Mr May will set you activities from the revision materials for you to work through weekly and these will be discussed during sessions in the week.
Below are documents that contain the KS2 key spelling words. These are the words that have been looked at within class spelling sessions and can be used at home to help develop spelling knowledge.
Try and practice your timestables as regulary as possible, they are one of the most important skills in maths. Below is the link for Timestables Rock Stars
