Our class is made up of enthusiastic and resilient children. We have discussed the Golden Rules and used these to create our own class Code of Conduct. Our classroom is a welcoming, supportive and engaging space where every class member feels valued, safe and listened to. We thrive with a supportive team work ethic and we know the value of learning from our mistakes as we know mistakes help us to learn. We look forward to working together to develop our skills and learn new things.
Things to remember

Summer Term 2022
English:
This term we will be focusing on 'The Rhythm of the Rain' written by Grahame Baker-Smith where we will be focusing on features of poetry before we create our own poem based on the book. This book follows the water droplet from the main character, Isaac's, jar that he collects. It goes on an adventure all around the world, through seas, rivers, waterfalls, streams and even rain clouds themselves! This book links perfectly to our connected curriculum topic (geogrpahy- mountains and volcanoes). Afterwards, we will be looking at a longer narrative, 'The Sheep Pig' written by Dick KingSmith. With this story we will be focus on showcasing all of our English writing skills by creating narrative setting and story endings where we can get creative and use our own unique ideas!
Writing:
At Cherry Tree, we use the Talk for Writing process, where we follow three stages: imitation, innovation and invention. We also have a strong focus on SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar).
Maths
In Maths, we are following the Power Maths scheme. Power Maths is a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths, well linked to the developing of a positive growth mindset using these fun characters.
Science
Last term we explored animals including humans. So far the children have really enjoyed practical experiments where we've investigated big questions for example 'do people with longer femurs jump futher?'. This term we will be continuing to develop our scientifc skills as we learn. Our next 2 science focuses are rocks and then plants.
Connected Curriculum
As well as having regular English and Maths lessons, we have a brilliant and rich Connected Curriculum where we make links between all subjects, where possible.
This term our focus is Geography! We will be learning all about volcanoes and mountains!
Spellings
We follow No Nonsense spellings. Please ensure your child knows the list of years 1 and 2 words and that they're practicing their weekly spellings.
Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to another busy term here in Willow class!
