Our class is made up of enthusiastic and resilient children. We have discussed the Golden Rules and used these to create our own class Code of Conduct. Our classroom is a welcoming, supportive and engaging space where every class member feels valued, safe and listened to. We thrive with a supportive team work ethic and we know the value of learning from our mistakes as we know mistakes help us to learn. We look forward to working together to develop our skills and learn new things.
Things to remember
Daily: reading records, correct uniform, P.E kit, water bottle and healthy snack. |
Homework: your child can choose which creative activity they would like to complete. We share and celebrate homework on a Friday afternoon.
Autumn Term 2022
English:
This term we will be focusing on 'The Iron Man' written by Ted Hughes where we will be using our class text to focusing on developing our skills surrounding non-chronological reports, newspapers and poetry. This book follows the story of a great iron giant who crashed down to earth only to befriend a small boy names Hogarth. Please feel free to ask your child for book updates on the story so far! Afterwards, we will be looking at a shorter narrative, 'Stone Age Boy' to help link to our history unit all about the Stone Age where the children will delve into what life was like during the Stone Age era.
Writing:
At Cherry Tree, we use the Talk for Writing process, where we follow three stages: imitation, innovation and invention. We also have a strong focus on SPAG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar).
Maths
In Maths, we are following the structure White Rose scheme as well as introducing a variety of resources such as NRICH and Power Maths. White Rose is a UK curriculum mastery programme designed to spark curiosity and excitement and nurture confidence in maths, well linked to the developing of a positive growth mindset and strong reasoning and problem solving skills.
Science
This term we will be focusing on light and dark as well as linking to our PHSE through healthy eating. The children will really enjoy practical experiments and outdoor learning opportunities. We will also be investigating big questions for example 'how can we look after our well-being?' or 'what might the effects of unhealthy eating have?'. We look forward to developing our analytical skills as we delve deeper now that we are in KS2. Our next science focus will link to our Stone Age learning where we will focus on rocks.
Connected Curriculum
As well as having regular English and Maths lessons, we have a brilliant and rich Connected Curriculum where we make links between all subjects, where possible.
This term our focus is PHSE! We will be learning all about the importance of health and well-being by focusing on 'Being My Best' and we look forward to show casing our learning during our class assembly!
Spellings
We follow No Nonsense spellings. Please ensure your child knows the list of years 1 and 2 words and that they're practicing their weekly spellings.
Thank you for your ongoing support and we look forward to a busy and fun term here in Willow class!
